I Was Forced To Look For A Medical Records Company To Meet "EHR Meaningful Use" Standards

Last Spring, the healthcare organization that I've worked at for the last couple years discovered that we were not meeting the federal "EHR meaningful use" standards and that we needed to remedy that as soon as possible. We spent a long time learning what the requirements would be, and then we discussed the possibility of us finding a new medical records company to work with, one who would be able to automatically meet the different guidelines.

This was an incredibly daunting task because "EHR meaningful use" is a pretty big deal and requires people to be up on the current definitions of meaningful use, so my job of finding the right company to handle the task of putting our records in order was huge. The higher ups placed me in charge of this job, but I was hoping that I would be up to the task because I did not have a ton of experience with the various medical billing companies out there in the marketplace.

The first phase was to set up a spreadsheet that would enable me to compare the features of the different companies, which was helpful, but I realized that it would be better to do an Internet search and see if there were any other companies out there. I was shocked to find that there was a very reputable medical billing company that had not been on my original list and even better, they offered some awesome web-based features that I had not really seen anywhere else.

The more I studied, the more impressed I was and after some more comparisons, I decided that this was the company that we should go with for our revenue cycle management. I sent the necessary information to the folks in charge of these decisions, and when I got their approval, I started the process of switching our medical records to this new system as fast as I possibly could.

Almost immediately, we noticed a lot of changes in how our medical records worked, starting with the fact that they were now accessible from any location at any time because of the web-based software that we were now employing. Along with ease of use in accessing these records, the entire billing process was just so much easier and before long, we were actually seeing an increase in our revenues and felt that it would be a good idea to get a couple more people on our team. And the best thing of all was that we were now able to meet the federal meaningful use requirements and take our practice to the next level in terms of patient service and assistance.
