It is now easier than ever for businesses to do project planning in a faster and easier way, thanks to the practical planning templates and high-quality graphics of project timeline software. Many prefer this type of software system over other comparable programs (like Excel, Microsoft Project, or PowerPoint) because it them to get their projects organized in an easier, more detailed, cheaper, quicker, and more structured way. It accomplishes all this, in part, by providing several distinct project views, which companies can choose among (using as many or as few as they want) to adapt it to the requirements of their projects and employees preferred working style.

For example, when project timeline software is first opened, it is in the Timeline view, which includes a series of information boxes where users can enter data by simply clicking on the boxes where they want to put it and typing in the desired information, or by taking information from other sources and dragging and dropping them in. One of the features that the Timeline offers includes an intuitive project overview that gives a complete picture of the plan from start to finish, and an adaptability that allows users to change the document's appearance using display options and simple formatting controls. This view is designed to be used during the defining, reviewing or updating stages a project, to draft charter documents or project proposals, and to show overall project scope and/or progress to senior executives, sponsors or a team.

Like the views outlined previously, the Activity Group Summary provides a broad overview of project events, however it differ slightly in that it provides them from a group perspective. This gives teams and other groups working with the project a basic view of how personnel are grouped and what their general responsibilities are in their groups.

For projects that need more detailed group information there is the Activity Group Detail view, which is includes two subgroups, the Action Overtime List, and the Action List. The Activity Group Detail shows pending as well as completed tasks using a mini-timeline, objectives and deliverables, a to-do list with specific individual responsibilities, among other things. This is perfect for working with the team (to make sure everyone understands who is doing what), reviewing or reporting on project progress, reviewing or updating specific activities, and other instances that require a detailed list. The Action List and Action of Overtime List views give a basic overview of group activities and responsibilities that are great for reviewing and updating upcoming tasks, and can be organized by activity groups or person.

Objectives and Scope views contain activity an issue log, group summary, action list, and contacts list - each of which provides a different perspective on projects that help with management, planning, and communication. This is one of the ways Gantt chart software programs can give businesses the information they need to plan and manage projects as efficiently as possible.
